Before You Start
Ottoman mechanisms can vary between bed designs. Lay out all the supplied parts and check the assembly instructions before fitting anything. Do not force the mechanism or use alternative fixings.

Step 1: Identify the Mechanism Parts
Before assembly, identify each component and compare it with the supplied instructions. You should normally have hinges, mounting brackets, gas lift struts and fixings.
Check Before Fitting
- All parts are present.
- Left and right brackets are correctly identified.
- Fixing holes are free from obstruction.
- Bolts and washers match the supplied instructions.
Step 2: Fit the Hinges and Brackets
Position the hinges and brackets on the bed frame using the pre-drilled fixing points. Start all bolts loosely so the mechanism can be aligned before final tightening.
- Position the brackets on the correct sides of the frame.
- Line up the fixing holes.
- Insert the supplied bolts and washers.
- Leave the fixings slightly loose for adjustment.
- Check that both sides are positioned evenly.
Step 3: Attach the Gas Lift Struts
With the hinge mechanism secured, attach the gas lift struts to the designated mounting points. Make sure each end is fully seated and clipped or bolted into place as specified by the manufacturer.
Fit Both Sides
Install the struts evenly on both sides where the design requires two lifting supports.
Do Not Force Them
If a strut does not line up, check the hinge position and fixing orientation rather than forcing it into place.
Important!
Gas lift struts can be under pressure. Keep fingers clear of moving hinge points and follow the manufacturer's fitting instructions carefully.
Step 4: Attach the Ottoman Lid or Mattress Platform
Once the mechanism is fitted to the frame, connect it to the upper platform or ottoman lid using the supplied fixings. A second person should support the platform while it is being attached.
- Position the upper platform over the hinges.
- Align the fixing holes on both sides.
- Insert the supplied bolts and washers.
- Check that the platform is centred.
- Tighten the fixings evenly.
Step 5: Test the Ottoman Mechanism
Slowly lift the platform to test the mechanism. It should open smoothly and remain supported by the gas struts. Lower it carefully and check that it closes correctly.
- Open the platform slowly.
- Check that both sides move evenly.
- Make sure the gas struts remain securely attached.
- Check for rubbing, unusual noises or resistance.
- Close the platform carefully before adding the mattress.
Final Safety Check
- All bolts and fixings are secure.
- Both hinges are correctly positioned.
- Gas lift struts are fully attached.
- The platform is level and centred.
- The mechanism opens and closes smoothly.
- There is no excessive movement or wobbling.
Ottoman Mechanism Troubleshooting
The Platform Won't Lift
Check that the gas struts are correctly fitted and that the hinges are installed in the correct orientation.
The Mechanism Feels Stiff
Check for misaligned brackets, overtightened fixings or anything obstructing the hinges.
The Bed Is Uneven
Check that the left and right mechanisms are positioned at the same height and that all fixings are secure.
The Mechanism Wobbles
Inspect all bolts, brackets and hinge connections. Tighten loose fixings without overtightening.
